![]() ![]() For me, the odds of getting the gun out without touching the trigger were out of my comfort zone. I'd be drawing from a confined space having to turn my hand and gun 90 degrees from where it was pointing at something without me aiming it. But the odds of a problem go up were I to draw while sitting. Even within a holster in the pocket, when I sit down the pocket-carried pistol is pointing at people and things I'd rather lessen even the extremely low risk of a holstered gun going off by itself. I came to the conclusion that, for pocket carry with semi-auto I'll only use a gun with a manual safety. But my biggest concern was when I was sitting (which I do a lot). For a long time, I carried a Glock 26 (no manual safety) and practiced drawing with it empty-chambered with no mag from the pocket and never had it 'fire' while drawing. You have to decide for yourself how trained and confident you feel to shoot only when and what you want to shoot.įor pocket carry (as opposed to In-Waist-Band (IWB) or Outer WB) I like the extra manual safety of the LC9 and EC9s. Uncle Mike's and Desantis are two I've used.Īs previously stated on other posts, lots of debate with balancing quickness of getting gun into action in emergency with an external safety with the other side being the cost of any extra step to get the gun in use under pressure. Holster is a must-have: cover the trigger. (See what I mean about tradeoffs? If I was really worried I'd carry one it each pocket, but then the weight would mean buying heavier suspenders ). And I'd have to bend down while standing to get at it. Pocket carry in lower cargo pants pocket would actually be better for addressing my sitting position concerns, but it bugs me bumping around there on my leg and having to open noisy velcro cargo flap to remove it. The material is thick and tends not to print. The best pants I've found are the heavy canvas or 'fire hose' pants. And they actually do away with a lot of the restrictions of upper pocket carry. Lower pockets will work if the gun doesn't bump into your knee a lot. I pocket carry, but primarily in cargo pants upper pocket. This reply is long, but I'm trying to convey my evolving selection process over the past years as well as answer some of your questions. And you'll find that even time of year and place and social occasion may change how you carry. You must decide what you are confident using for your situation(s). ![]() ![]() You will learn that there are tradeoffs in every method of carry. Learn them early and you will be ahead of the game. You might want to learn a double action trigger. Note: The LC9S and the LC9E both have the light very light triggers. However, the built-in safeties on the grip and the trigger mean that the pistol cannot be fired unless I am gripping it and deliberately pull the trigger. And when I carry a semi-auto, it is a Springfield subcompact with dual built-in safeties. Here's a link to an article that may help clarify things for you.īTW, I personally carry a double action only revolver (LCR) most days because I don't want to have to worry about dropping a safety lever in a high stress situation. Some semi-automatics have a manual safety lever that must be moved from "safe" to "fire" before you can fire a round. I do not own the LCP nor the EC9S, however, there are a number of safety factors to consider when carrying a loaded firearm. You are wise to have safety as a top (if not THE top) priority when it comes to firearms. Hi, and if I have not already welcomed you aboard, welcome aboard. I realize nothing is 100% but would anyone say one of these 2 models is safer over the other? So what say you all? I guess I'm looking for a clear explanation as to what each safety does and does it provide protection from the gun discharging while in my pocket? That seems to be my biggest concern/scare. I guess I also like the idea of the manual safety to help control the trigger. I personally don't see what a big deal the magazine safety is but there seems to be many who are against it. The EC9S seems to have more safety features although I've also read differing opinions. I also have question could the gun discharge if dropped? What I'm mostly concerned about is from what I've read if I carry the LCP II after racking a round into the chamber then the hammer is back and with no other protection if the trigger is pulled the gun goes off. I'm not a long-time gun owner and I'm not overly knowledgeable with all the terms out there when it comes to guns especially the various types of safeties that are built into them so I'm hoping I can get a quick "safety 101" on these guns. I'm seriously considering picking up a small pocket gun for concealed carry and am bouncing between a LCP II or EC9S. ![]()
